Dogwood Blossoms – Chapter 1: Catherine, p.06-11

Next installment of Dogwood Blossoms, Sess/Rin fancomic.
Inuyasha over-reacts, as usual, and intro the first OC!

Dogwood Blossoms is going to be a part-comic/part-prose Inuyasha manga-based fanfiction focusing on Sesshoumaru/Rin, and involving reincarnation, flashbacks, history, culture clashes, and multiple original characters. Sesshoumaru does not appear in the first chapter.

If you dislike fanfiction, fancomics, anime, Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, Sess/Rin, or OCs, PLEASE IGNORE anything marked DOGWOOD in my postings from now on.

If you're okay with any of those, please do check it out, I think it going to be pretty cool. XD

Acknowledgments and Disclaimer: The fate of no one historical was changed by the making of this comic. Inuyasha-tachi belong to Takahashi Rumiko and everyone she has sold them to. This is a mostly nonprofit fan work that I’m really slowly putting too much work into because I'm a pathetic period-accuracy purist. All historical inaccuracies are the fault of myself--some deliberate, the rest out of ignorance. There is only so much time a girl can put into research for a fan project. Many thanks to the beta group for their help and suggestions.

    EEEE, love how doglike he actually is. Jumping around, poking at the necklace. LOVE your interpretation of Inuyasha (though I hate that anime)

    Whee! Is this the artistic equivalent of a cliffie? Y’all know we’re dying to see what Shichiro looks like without his concealment amulet… hah! Can’t wait for Inu’s response!

      Cliffies happen even more in comics because they’re shorter installments.

        One point that baffled me a bit, though… but I think I know what you meant, since Shichiro is sort of doing a ‘double-speak’ thing (and making Inu nuts with the ‘oji-chan’. Hee!).

        It’s when he describes Kagome as ‘the miko from foreign lands’; even back in the Sengoku Jidai, she was obviously Japanese, so ‘foreign lands’ doesn’t quite fit. He’s looking right at her, not to mention Inu pointing the Tetsusaiga at his throat (loved that swipe about a ‘disrespectful inu-hanyou running around Tokyo with his youki on full blast’), says he’s up on his youkai history, so perhaps a better nod to his ‘in-the-know’ position might be ‘the miko from a different time’?

        Just a suggestion; use or discard as you choose!

          I was thinking that not all legends get passed down correctly, or are understood by those seeing them from the outside. Shichiro would get his info from family history, legend, and excitable flea demons. I don’t know if Myoga understands exactly where Kagome comes from, or if they get that she’s from Japan’s own future. I was thinking she dresses so differently that Sengoku people wouldn’t connect her with themselves very much. She would have different speech patterns, too, even if they don’t go into that in the original story. So I went with the perceived ‘foreign, magical lands’ theory for Kagome. At least in this fanstory.

          Sesshoumaru, of course, would have figured it out since the 1950’s or so, when the sailor suits became common, but he doesn’t talk much. 🙂

          So many options! I’ve just got to decide and go with one.

    uh. on another subject, i want you to know that i’m working on a sess/reincarnated!rin fic (not comic) also, and opted to make my character an irish catholic girl from the states. very different set up i assure you, and feni can vouch for me since i’ve shared a first draft with you. but when i (finally) come out with it, i just want you to know i wasnt’ copying your idea, but already had it underway when i found you….

        yeah. when i first started this idea, i also emailed her and told her that NO WAY was i going to do a reincarnated rin…. then about a month later – when i realized i HAD to do it for the story to work, i emailed her on hands and knees. she’s good that way!

    This whole thing just looks fantastic. I love your illustration style. Kagome looks so pretty! Is she a little older than in the manga?

      she’s 17. This takes place 3 years after the beginning of the manga, assuming that Takahashi is confining all the events of the manga to Kagome’s 15th year. She’s still officially in her last year of Jr High in the manga (as senseless as that may be :).
